Today is a walk down memory lane. It is not often we stand in a moment of time and know that we are creating a new memory for our treasuring. This week ahead of me will be full of new memorable moments, but also of old. So I invite you into a glimpse of my journey.
My brain goes here:
The girls have always been silly sisters. They may be almost three years apart, but best friends since the beginning. So many days of dress up, princess play, tea parties, and mock school fill the recesses of my mind. They shared a bedroom for years and their hearts for longer. Their days in Phoenix held friends, playing soccer together and a love for the pool. Water games, searches for seashells and dreams of mermaids float by.
Years filled with homeschooling drew them together and I don’t know if they will ever understand the gift they were to each other. There is beauty in this sister love. I have never had this, but admire it all the same.
Childhood led to teenage years. The gap in age tried to divide and separate them, but they just would not allow it. Curling up to watch their favorite movies, shopping together and trips to Starbucks pulled them close.
This high school picture will always be treasured as the girls played varsity soccer together for one year. The joy of watching them striving alongside one another was priceless. There were homecomings, papers, spirit weeks, holidays, proms and finals. It all seems to be a blur now, if it were not for pictures.
There are more snapshots in my mind than I can share. What a journey it was! However, the days kept moving on.
College arrived and separated them by miles, yet, the bond had already been solidified. I dare not show the goofy FaceTime screen shots they hold ransom over each other. They are priceless. The countless number of texts and Snapchats has closed the distance and days between visits. Silliness still prevails when they are together.
They share their lives with each other, encouraging and challenging one another to be exactly who they are. God chose these girls for each other. Yes, there have been ups and downs. Those exist in every relationship. They have been and are traveling different roads, but never failing to remain tethered together.
This week, they will share another milestone…College Graduation. They will each dress in their robes, position their tassels, and walk the stage to receive their diploma. Sadly, they will not have the privilege of watching each other. 472 miles and one hour…a single time zone…will prevent them from savoring it together. My heart is full; I am as proud as any mother could be, not only of their accomplishments, but of the women they have become. So many adventures will span the years ahead, but one thing is for certain, they will be there for one another through it all.
CONGRATULATIONS to my middle daughters!
May God continue to lead and guide you as you pursue Him and His desires for you.
