Where do you go when you seek the Lord?
For me, I often go to the mountains. There is something in these surroundings, away from the hustle, that draw me in. The beauty cultivates awe. The enormity sizes me up. The sounds beckon me closer to listen. I draw near.
When I come seeking the Lord, I am never sure what He will share with me, but I can be confident He can be found. Jeremiah shares this with us in chapter 29 verse 13, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Knowing He desires fellowship with me and makes Himself available is all I need.
I have had the opportunity to be in Jerusalem at the Western Wall a few times now. It is a place of joy, of peace and of seeking God. Jews come here, to what remains of the temple. It is the closest location left to the Holy of Holies, where His presence once resided. Visitors often bring their prayers on small pieces of paper to leave tucked in the crevices of the Wall. I have watched as many come to seek God and to pray to Him there. On my most recent visit, I wrote these words:
Hiding papers of prayers in the Wall,
Where is His Word?
Hidden in your heart?
Kissing and weeping, reading and praying,
You seek One who has already come.
Reverence and heads covered, pressing in,
What are their hearts seeking?
You dwelt here once;
You will again.
Never turing their backs as they depart,
Showing respect to Your Holiness.
One generation teaching the next,
Singing and praying to You.
Seeking you…for healing, for joy, for direction, for restoration.
May You remove the veil that they may see You!
I seek, I find, when I seek with all my heart! May it be the same for them. Thank you, Father!!!
Even in these words, I struggle to understand all scripture has said and declares for me. This I do know: He loves each one of us. He came to seek and save Every Lost Person. He will return! We are all waiting, looking to the East, listening for the trumpets declaration, and anticipating His return.
Seek Him!
